Cebuana Tabal finishes 124th in first Olympic stint

Cebu’s Mary Joy Tabal finished 124th place in women’s marathon of the Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil late Sunday (Philippine time).

The 27-year old marathoner from Barangay Guba, Cebu City, clocked three hours, two minutes and 28 seconds in her first Olympic stint. It was a far cry from her personal best of 2:43:31.

Topping the race was Jemima Sumgong. She became the first Kenyan to win a gold medal in women’s marathon.

Second placer was Bahrain’s Eunice Kirwa while third place went to Mare Dibaba.

Tabal of the Motorace Kawasaki Racing Team, is the first Filipina to compete in women’s marathon of the Olympics.
