UNKNOWN to many, lawyer Ingemar Macarine also known as Pinoy Aquaman, completed another long distance swim in Cebu yesterday.

The open water long distance swimmer, who had to cancel what could have been a historic swim across the English Channel last month due to inclement weather, continued on his journey to promote the oceans by successfully crossing the Hilutungan Channel starting from the Mactan Newtown beachfront to Barangay Baring of Olanggo Island.

Macarine covered the grueling 5.7-kilometer distance in two hours.

Macarine, 39 initially planned to make a two way swim from Mactan Island to Olanggo Island and back but decided to junk the plan due to the strong current in the channel.

Macarine decided to do the Hilutungan swim as part of the World Ocean Clean Up Day celebration. It was his 23rd successful open water swim.

Even though he completed the swim safely, Macarine who is also an environmentalist, expressed disappointment over the amount of garbage floating in the channel.

“I just hope my swims for the environment will inspire our fellow countrymen to care more for our marine environment,” Macarine said.
