City to close roads, reroute traffic

Two major roads in Cebu City will be closed this coming Sunday for the 40th National Milo Marathon.

In line with this, the Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) will be implementing a rerouting scheme for Public Utility Jeepneys (PUJs) that will be affected by the closure.

The roads to be closed are Osmeña Blvd., from corner Escario St. until corner P. Del Rosario St., and Escario St. from the area near the Capitol Parish Church until the grounds fronting the Cebu Provincial Capitol Building.

“Motorists, drivers and other road users are advised to follow the traffic signs installed on the rerouting area,” said CCTO Head Rafael Yap in an advisory.

The closure will start at 3 a.m. on Sunday and will last until the event finishes.

PUJs coming from the Guadalupe and Banawa areas will have to take V. Rama Avenue going to Alcantara St. or N. Bacalso Avenue to P. Del Rosario St. then to Osmeña Blvd. until the Carbon area. On their way back, they can take the same roads.

On the other hand, those PUJs coming from Lahug and Apas areas can pass through Gen. Maxilom Avenue to F. Ramos St. to Junquera St. and Sanciangko St. to their usual route. They can also use the same roads on the way back.

PUJs coming from Labangon going to Ayala can use P. Del Rosario St. to D. Jakosalem St. to Echavez Extension, then to F. Ramos St. to Gen. Maxilom Avenue until they reach Ayala area.

Meanwhile, private motorists coming from V. Rama Avenue who wish to go to the Ayala area can access Maria Cristina St. in order to avoid the closed roads.

“We are not really expecting traffic congestion based on our experience in previous years. It’s also a Sunday morning,” Yap said.
