CEBU CITY—At least P5.9 million worth of shabu was allegedly recovered from a couple during a buy-bust operation on Wednesday night in Barangay Labangon, Cebu City.

Jesryl Bacalla and his wife Jean were detained to face charges for violating Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Senior Supt.Joel Doria, director of the Cebu City Police Office, said Jesryl was a member of the group of suspected drug lord Rolando “Kerwin” Espinosa Jr. in Cebu while Jean is a councilor of a village in Baybay town, Leyte.

The police said at least at least 26 plastic packs of shabu with an estimated total weight of 500.5 grams worth P5.9 million were seized during a buy-bust operation in their house in Barangay Labangon about 10 p.m.

Jesryl, who handed a pack of shabu to an undercover policeman, denied that he was part of Espinosa’s illegal drug ring.

He claimed that he was just a small-time peddler who sold shabu to sustain his illegal drugs use.

Jean, however, denied that she was involved in her husband’s illegal drug trade.

She said she had just arrived home from Baybay where she was based after she decided to visit her husband in Cebu.
