A STORE owner was shot dead by an unknown assailant in the mountain barangay of Taptap, Cebu City past 6 p.m. on Sunday.

PO3 Cristobal Geronimo of the Cebu City police’s homicide division said Ian Goc-ong sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to the nearest hospital but failed to make it.

The motive and identity of the perpetrator remain unknown.

“His wife said the victim did not have any enemy. Perhaps, someone got jealous especially that his business continues to thrive,” said Geronimo in an interview.

Goc-ong, 35, went out of his general merchandise store when the assailant, on board a motorcycle, approached and shot him.

He reportedly ran to save himself but the gunman chased him and finished him off, Geronimo said.

Goc-ong was brought to the Perpetual Succour Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
