THE men’s and women’s beach volleyball teams of Southwestern University (SWU) registered separate victories to advance into the semifinal round of the 21st Philippine University Games beach volleyball competition yesterday in Dumaguete City.

The Lady Cobras ousted the University of Sto Tomas (UST), 21-19, Foundation University (FU), 21-7, and University of San Agustin (USA), 21-7, to punch their ticket to the next round.

Not to be outdone, the SWU men’s team kicked off their title-retention bid with a 21-8 victory over Siliman University (SU). They then toppled Colegio dela Purisima College (CPC), 21-18, before falling short against UST, 18-21.

SWU mentor Dave Arreza said that they are already assured of a spot in the semifinals by virtue of the quotient system.
