Leylam FC toughens up following Vietnam experience

ALTHOUGH Cebu’s Leylam Football Club faltered in the recent Saigon 7’s Football Tournament in Vietnam, the experience playing abroad should help the team in its title-retention bid in the men’s open division of the upcoming 18th Aboitiz Football Cup in Cebu.

The team, which finished first-runner up in the plate division of Saigon 7’s last year, was eliminated in the quarterfinals last Sunday, according to head coach Oliver Colina.

The Cebuanos were defeated by Universal FC, 0-2, but got another chance to qualify for the semifinals. However, they blew that chance when they lost to Bucket Minge FC, 2-3.

“The teams that vied here have different level of competitiveness and all of them are foreigners and bigger than my players so the overall exposure and experience of our team will really help our campaign in the Aboitiz Football Cup,” Colina said. “I believe that my players’ level of competitiveness will rise.”

The team that went to Vietnam was composed of Rene Sanchez Jr., Jason Domagtoy, Evren, Baris,Ugur and Cem Tasci, Ruffy Llorente, Michael Pacite, Harris Segovia, Abelardo Salinas and Ranulfo Colina.
