AALIYAH Ricci Mataragnon stamped her class anew as she topped the women’s 4040 distance in the 3rd 8080 San Remigio Triathlon yesterday, six days after winning the Sunrise Sprint Race in Bohol.

Mataragnon of Sante Barley clocked 1 hour 55 minutes and 58 seconds in the 900-meter swim, 32.5K bike and 7K run race to win two titles in a span of one week.

Kate Kim finished in 2:06:00 for second place, while Myrlinda Colmenares nabbed third place.

Mataragnon, who also competed in the 26th Cebu City Olympics swimming competition last Friday, admitted that her plan was to just pace with the other triathletes and never thought of winning. “I did not expect the win since I also competed in the 400m swim and relay events for Unit 6 in the Cebu City Olympics before coming here in San Remigio,” said the Grade 11 student of Sacred Heart School-Hijas de Jesus.

When she came out of the swim leg first among female triathletes, that’s when Mantaragnon entertained thoughts of winning. She maintained her smoldering pace in the bike portion and finished strong in the run part to capture the crown.

Matarganon also won the women’s division of the Sunrise Sprint Race in Panglao, Bohol last Nov. 6.

Meanwhile, Talisay City’s Andrew Kim Remolino ruled the men’s 4040 distance in 1:37:44.

Remolino, a national team member, showed too much class in beating Sherwin Manganil (1:38:32), for the title. Christian Lloyd Saladaga finished third in 1:40:36.

Remolino, a student of Talisay City Science High School, recently came from race abroad—the 2016 Hong Kong ASTC Sprint Triathlon Asian Cup in Lantau Island, Hong Kong last month.

Meanwhile, the results of the premier 8080 category, which has a 1.8K swim, 65K bike and 14K run course, were not yet posted as of press time last night.
