Osmeña considers Kalunasan as new city jail site

CEBU City Mayor Tomas Osmeña said the city government has yet to find a suitable site for a new jail facility.

The mayor said this after Councilor Joel Garganera questioned his plan of converting the Inayawan landfill into a jail facility.

The mayor said he has one area in mind to build a new prison.

“There’s one site, at the back of Barangay Kalunasan. It’s the best site I can think of,” he said.

Osmeña said it is isolated yet it is easy to build a road there.

“It can be a source of sand and gravel, there are plenty of trees. No need to plant anymore,” he said. Osmeña said the area is big enough for the jail facility.

The mayor earlier said the city government could fund the construction of a new city jail if it can generate substantial revenue from taxes.
