ALEGRIA Mayor Verna Magallon called the reports about the E. coli contamination at the Kanlaob River as unfair.

She wanted to know why the Capitol only tested the Kanlaob river.

“They should also examine other bodies of water in the province,’ Magallon told Cebu Daily News.

She also challenged the provincial government to conduct water sampling in the whole province of Cebu.

“If the rest in the province are negative, and if it is only Alegria that is positive with the bacteria, then we will close (canyoneering),” she told Cebu Daily News.

The town has regular chlorine treatment for drinking water used at the household levels.

Donald Villarin, tourism officer of Badian said that there are no households near Kanlaob river specifically in Barangay Sulsogan.

“Households are at least 500 kilometers more or less from the river. Costas has never been in the area (Barangay Sulsogan),” Villarin told Cebu Daily News.

He also questioned the credibility of the water test results since he claimed that these were not validated.
