A police officer was wounded after a man, who is believed to be under the influence of drugs, tried to stab him in the neck in Barangay Kamagayan, Cebu City.

PO3 Nelson Lagumbay was attacked by Mark Solon, 23, at around 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Solon, a resident of Borgonia St, Barangay Mabolo, Cebu City, approached Lagumbay and his companion, SPO1 Rechie Ondo, while they were patrolling in Barangay Kamagayan.

Solon threw two plastics sachets containing white crystalline substance believed to be shabu at the patrolling policemen as if challenging them to arrest him. Lagumbay and Ondo then proceeded to introduce themselves but Solon reacted violently.

“He took out a cutter and tried to stab Lagumbay in the neck. Lagumbay was able to evade the attack with the blade hitting him in the face instead,” said PO2 Edadis Bustarde of Parian Police Station.

After the attack, Solon tried to run away but SPO1 Ondo shot him on his lower right leg neutralizing him.

Police recovered from Solon the cutter blade he used to stab Lagumbay and the two plastic sachets containing crystalline substance.

Lagumbay and Solon were brought to Cebu City Medical Center for immediate medical treatment./With USJ-R Intern Delyne Marl Saragena
