ABOUT-FACE

During the budget hearing of a local government unit, every department head was given a chance to justify his/her budget.

When it was the turn of the public information officer, who is known to be feuding with other heads, the other department officers showed what they thought of the PIO by feigning disinterest in what the PIO was saying.

One department head even deliberately turned his chair around and faced the wall while the PIO spoke.

A FAMOUS ISLAND’S LIFE

Known for its long stretch of white sand beach, it’s not surprising that local and foreign visitors have been coming in droves to a famous island in the Visayas.

But a native of the island says she sometimes wishes that there are not so many tourists on her beloved island.

She says the presence of tourists, especially foreigners, are largely to be blamed for the high cost of living on the island.

“Ang mahal ng mga bilihin dito. Yung isang libo mo di kasya kahit sa dalawang tao (The price of goods here are so steep. Your P1000 is not enough for buy food for two people),” she says.

DRIVING FOR LOVE

A Siloy pal recently took a city trip in a car booked via an on-demand car service’s internet app.

The car owner-driver, a supervisor of a private company, said that while he was not keen on driving yet because he did not want to become a TNT (tago nang tago) like the others who still ply routes despite the threat of being caught by Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) enforcers, he said he needed to earn extra since his wedding has already been set in January.

He said it was precisely because he wanted to give his girlfriend a beautiful wedding that he decided to drive for the car-sharing service company in the first place.
