A BYPASS road that will connect the old Cebu International Port (CIP) in Cebu City to the planned Cebu International Port in Consolacion, northern Cebu is being considered by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

In yesterday’s 888 News Forum, Engr. Nonito Paylado, DPWH planning division chief, said they still need a feasibility study for the project.

“We still need to endorse hopefully at the end of the last quarter during the Regional Development Council (RDC) meeting. This will be endorsed at the central office for the funds (feasibility study),” Paylado told the reporters.

The feasibility study will cost P80 million while the project itself may cost up to P5 billion, Paylado said.

“But a more reliable project cost will be determined after the completion of the study,” Paylado said in a text message to Cebu Daily News.

The bypass road is a long-term project in order to help traffic flow, Paylado said. The bypass will have six lanes including two center islands that can accommodate future expansion.

Possible route that will be included in the study include those from Zuellig Avenue (Mandaue City) connecting to some portion of Ouano Avenue (Mandaue City) then proceeding to the Mandaue-Mactan bridge.

Paylado said a new bridge that will run parallel at the Cansaga bridge is also being considered.

On reaching the Consolacion area, the road will branch out to several alignments to be determined by the study.

There will be another parallel bridge at Suba bridge in Liloan, but it will not connect to the junction since it is congested, he said.
