AFTER winning three medals in the 3rd Karate Mayor’s Cup Championships in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia last weekend, Cebu’s Rafael Vidal sets his sights on bigger tournaments this January and February.

The 13-year-old Vidal of the University of Cebu (UC), also the ace karateka of Hayashi-ha Shitoryukai Karatedo Team Cebu, won one gold and two silver medals in last weekend’s tournament, where he was accompanied by his father, Reynante Vidal.

Reynante, who is also the trainer and sensei of Rafael, said his son will be vying in the 4th Adidas International Karatedo Championships on Jan. 21 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Manila and the Vietnam Junior Cadet Karatedo Cup slated in February.

Reynante said his son has started training for the two major international karadeto tournaments.

“We better start this training early so that we can meet our target and reach our goals,” said the elder Vidal.

Rafael won a gold medal in this the third edition of the Adidas International Karatedo Championships held early this year.
