SWU belles stay hot in Catmon volleyfest

CESAFI high school powerhouse Southwestern University (SWU) Baby Cobras pulled off two huge victories, including one against the women’s team of the University of San Carlos (USC) Lady Warriors, to assure themselves of a spot in the semifinal round of the K of C 1st Open Volleyball Tournament over the weekend at the Pedro J. Monsanto Sports Complex in Catmon town, northern Cebu.

The Baby Cobras opened their campaign with a 25-13, 25-15 thrashing of Abellana National School (ANS) before shocking the much-experienced Lady Warriors in a three-set thriller, 23-25, 25-18, 25-20, for a 2-0 (win-loss) record in Group B.

In Group A play, the Lady Cobras blasted the Catmon selection volleyball team in straight sets, 25-17, 25-16.

Action continues on Dec. 17 as the Lady Cobras battle the USC Baby Warriors, ANS tangles with Cesafi girls champions Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu, and Catmon squares off against Compostela.

The top two teams in each group after a single round robin eliminations are set to battle in a crossover semifinals on Dec. 21.
