A 40-year-old woman was injured after being caught in a crossfire during a shootout between two drug suspects and Talisay City policemen around 8 p.m. last Wednesday in Sitio Rattan, Barangay Tangke, Talisay City.

Maria Theresa Mabala, a resident of the area, sustained a minor injury in her left arm and was immediately brought to Talisay City District Hospital.

PO3 Erwin Carbonquillo of Talisay City Police Station said the policemen led by SPO3 Vincent Taladua were roving in the area when the suspects, who were later identified as Jason Napala and a certain Jeffrey, ran towards an interior portion after seeing the authorities.

Carbonquillo said the policemen chased the suspects, but Jeffrey allegedly pulled out a gun from his sling bag and shot the chasing cops, prompting SPO3 Taladua and fellow cops to return fire.

Mabala, who was then passing, was caught in the crossfire. The two eluded arrest.
