ONE of the owners of a Cebu City-based university was found dead inside his rest house at Sitio Pulang Yuta, Barangay Look, Danao City last Wednesday morning.

Senior Insp. Alejandro Batobalonos of the Danao City police identified the victim as 61-year-old Matias Aznar, a resident of Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City.

Batobalonos said the rest house caretaker identified as Jonathan Mangas found Aznar soaked in his own blood from a gunshot wound on his chest inside his unlocked room.

Mangas was about to turn off the light inside Aznar’s room when he saw him lying dead on the floor.

Recovered from the crime scene was one 9 mm pistol loaded with three bullets and two empty shells beside Aznar’s body. Batobalonos said they found no suicide note.

But Aznar’s relatives who showed up at the Danao police precinct said Aznar was believed to have committed suicide due to a lingering illness which they did not specify.

Aznar’s relatives also did not mention if he had any financial problem.

Batobalonos said he requested the relatives to have the body undergo an autopsy but they declined.
