THE Police Regional Office (PRO-7) said it will still be on alert this holiday season despite the government’s ongoing talks with the communist rebels.

In a press conference yesterday, PRO-7 director Chief Supt. Noli Taliño said they will be on a full alert status.

“We’ve been on a ceasefire with the Communist Party of the Philippines and the New People’s Army. But we will continue to observe them,” Taliño said.

In a Dec. 17 visit to the Western Mindanao Command in Zamboanga City, President Duterte said he was hoping that armed confrontations will stop this Christmas season as he urged communist rebels and the Abu Sayyaf bandits to “take a vacation.”

In region 7, Taliño said that they will continue to monitor terror threats.
Though there is no specific or direct threat to Central Visayas, Taliño said that they are still monitoring the region for any terror groups and activities.

“These are terrorist groups; anytime they can strike if they want to. They don’t even want peace talks,” Taliño said.

The Central Command (Centcom) said they will continue with their check points and monitoring of the communist rebels.

Lt. Col. Luzmindo Mamaug Jr., spokesperson of the Cebu City-based CentCom, said they are on blue alert but monitoring will still continue.
