FOR almost 30 years now, Philippine Taekwondo Association Region 7 Director Tony del Prado and his wife Wewi have been living in blissful matrimony.
Tony said one of the secrets of their longevity is that they love to eat. In fact, over the length of their marriage, they make sure to dine out three to four times a week.
Tony, 57, has served as head of the PTA-7 since 2003 and he credits his success in designing the Cebuano taekwondo community to its vibrant state today, to the woman who has continuously reminded him the importantance of his job.
“She has helped me a lot in taekwondo,” Tony, who married Wewi in the 30th of May, 1987 told CDN, “When work becomes a burden, she’s always there to be my wake up call.”
The couple, who has three kids, have been through the usual bumpy rides in marriage, none more tragic than when Wewi suffered from stage 3-A colon cancer. During those painful treatment sessions, Tony made sure to be the comfort his wife direly needs, constantly reassuring her of his undying love and support. He was the rock during those times when his wife’s disease seem to weaken not only her body but the very foundation of their marriage as well.
They then made God the center of their family and prayer their sole refuge.
Soon after, a miracle happened.
Five years ago, Wewi was declared cancer-free. Proof that indeed, love conquers all.
This Valentine’s Day, Tony and Wewi has no plans to spend the day of love in grand style. They just want it simple yet memorable.
