The flow of drugs into Metro Cebu’s jails continues unabated with 135 grams of shabu seized on separate occasions at the Cebu City Jail and Talisay City Jail yesterday and last Saturday.

At the Cebu City Jail, guards found six sachets of shabu weighing 30 grams under the cap worn by 33-year-old kitchen employee Roque Lauron during a routine search at 11 p.m. last Saturday.

Supt. Jessie Calumpang, Cebu City Jail warden, said the shabu were wrapped in packaging tape and placed inside a small brown paper bag stapled under the cap.

“When our jail guards ordered Lauron to remove his cap, he was trembling and he tightened his grip on his cap. But he relented and the guards saw the shabu,” Calumpang said.

Calumpang said Lauron had been working in the prison’s male dormitory kitchen for two years now.

Lauron is now detained at the Guadalupe police precinct pending the filing of charges against him.

In October last year, a kitchen employee named Josephino Oliverio was arrested after he delivered 50 grams of shabu to an inmate.
“We may have to replace all kitchen personnel if this continues,” Calumpang said.

Lauron wasn’t the only one who brought drugs to the Cebu City Jail.

A jail guard named Arthuro Cabase discovered a coin purse that contained two heat sealed plastic sachets filled with shabu. The plastic sachets were found behind the water dispenser located at the main entrance gate.

Calumpang said no one saw who tossed the coin purse in the area.

At the Talisay City Jail, a 36-year-old woman identified as April Mariquit was arrested for allegedly sneaking in 55 grams of shabu.

Chief Insp. Josephus Jelianggao, Talisay City Jail warden, said Mariquit was trying to smuggle three large packs, two medium packs and one small pack of shabu and P78,000 in cash.

He said the drugs and cash were placed on wrapped packages taped on her legs.
