AFTER A rigorous two days filled with various individual assessment drills and a five-on-five scrimmage session that had numerous Jr. NBA coaches watching their every move, 14 boys and girls from all over the Visayas stood out and made the cut for the Jr. NBA Philippines 2017 presented by Alaska National Training Camp this May.

Standing out were Ateneo de Cebu’s Nicael Dominie Cabanero, University of San Carlos North’s Reinard Jumamoy, Cebu Eastern College’s Jericho Diloria, St. Anthony High School’s Rolando Jesus Abad and USC South’s Jessray Enriquez.

A couple of out-of-towners also flew in and proved their worth as Zhan Moreno of Xavier University from Cagayan de Oro and Joshua Benedict Baldonado of St. John Institute from Bacolod earned slots to the nationals.

Seven girls were also given slots to the nationals. These were Ynna Juanne Abella from the Sotero Cabahug Forum for Literacy, Princess Delig of the Abellana National High School, Aishe Solis of Marymount Academy, Chinnsai Deanna from the University of the Visayas-Mandaue, Tara Sabalones from the Montessori Academy of Southern Cebu Inc., Frenzie Tagalog from the University of Southern Philippines Foundation and Maybelle Retubado of the Bulacao Community High School.

The national training camp will be held in Manila on May 12 to 14.

At the national training camp, eight boys and eight girls will be chosen from among the finalists from the various regions and the Alaska Power Camp. They will be named this year’s Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA All-Stars and will enjoy a unique NBA experience later in the year.
