Rains to persist in Cebu this week: Pagasa

ISOLATED rain showers and thunderstorms will continue to prevail over Cebu this week due to the tail-end of a cold front in the Visayas, the Mactan office of the state weather bureau Pagasa said yesterday.

“The presence of northeast monsoon (amihan) which can bring cold winds and rains continues to prevail,” Pagasa Mactan weather specialist Romeo Aguirre said.

The cold front is the result of the overlapping of warm and cold winds in the upper latitude of Japan, he said.

Aguirre said once the monsoon is gone, the warm easterly winds will come in, kicking off the summer season.

Aguirre said summer weather may come before the end of this month.

For March, Pagasa said at least one tropical cyclone will enter the country.

As of 3 p.m. yesterday, Pagasa Mactan recorded 43.7 millimeters of rain which is below normal of the average rainfall of 61 millimeters.
