YOUTHFUL boxing promoter Jim Claude Manangquil will be receiving the prestigious “Best Promoter” award in the 17th Gabriel “Flash” Elorde Boxing Memorial Awards and Banquet of Champions on March 25 at the Tent of the Manila Hotel.
At 24 years old, Manangquil, chief operating officer (CEO) of the General Santos City-based Sanman Promotions, is the youngest recipient of the award.
Manangquil became the world’s youngest boxing promoter and manager when he started promoting boxing while handling the careers of some boxers at the age of 14.
“I was encouraged by my brother John Ray to get into boxing. In fact, I also trained as a boxer because of him” said Manangquil.
Manangquil first formed the JM Promotions in 2007 then later spearheaded the creation of the Sanman Promotions together with John Ray and fellow businessman Dexter Tan.
Last year, Sanman put up nine promotions, including seven title fights.
This year, Manangquil is planning to stage more boxing shows in Mindanao as well as in Cebu.
“I am very thankful for the award. I dedicate this to all Sanman members Dexter Tan, my brother John Ray Manangquil and the staff” said Manangquil. “And also to all the Sanman fighters. For without them, I will not achieve anything,” said Manangquil.
Aside from Manangquil, also set to be recognized by the same award-giving body are Sanman boxers John Vincent Moralde, Reymart Gaballo, Mike Plania, Randy Petalcorin and Romero Duno./EDITORIAL ASSISTANT CALVIN D. CORDOVA
