A truck driver died after his vehicle rammed into a Mahogany tree in Barangay Canlumacad, Santander in southern Cebu.

Ramir Bertodes, 41, of Barangay Tumanog, Sta. Catalina, Negros Oriental and driver of Elf cargo truck with plate number YKR 989, came from Ginatilan town and was on his way to Liloan, a barangay next to Canlumacad, to deliver mahogany woods as materials for furniture when the incident occurred around 4 a.m. yesterday.

Bertodes suffered multiple bone fractures and head injuries. Rescuers had a hard time pulling Bertodes out as he was pressed between the front portion of the vehicle and the mahogany lumbers that were loaded at the back.

PO3 Antonio Beliesco of Santander Police Station said that according to the truck boy who managed to escape, Bertodes fell asleep while driving. His vehicle encroached on the opposite lane and then rammed into the mahogany tree.
