Traffic congestion at the side of Tabunok, Talisay City and the South Road Properties (SRP) in Cebu City was moderate as repairs started at the Tabunok flyover since last Friday evening.
Almond dela Peña, acting chief of the City of Talisay Traffic Operation Development Authority (CTTODA), said they changed the traffic light settings from automatic to manual due to the volume of vehicles passing by the area.
Changing of traffic lights along the SRP near Talisay City is usually set at two minutes.
About 30 traffic enforcers were deployed in the area to handle traffic flow.
The regional Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH-7) is expected to finish the first layering of asphalt and waterproofing at dawn today.
Maintenance work will then resume at 11 p.m. on April 4 until 5 a.m. the next day.
In Cebu City, Francisco Ouano, operations chief of the Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO), said traffic was moving at the SRP Cebu City side.
“As of (5 p.m. of Saturday) walay grabeng traffic and manageable ra ang mga sakyanan (As of 5 p.m. of Saturday there is no heavy traffic and the vehicles were manageable),” Ouano said.
He said they expected the heavy volume of traffic due to the number of people heading to the province for the weekend.
Ouano said they met with bus operators to remind them of the speed limit in passing through the SRP.
“Dili raman sad ang bus moagi sa SRP naay private cars and motorcycles. Aron malikayan usab ang disgrasya ug dili maka balda sa traffic, limit na lang sila sa 40 to 50 kilometer per hour (Not only buses pass SRP, there are also private cars and motorcycles. For them to avoid accidents and traffic jam, they should have a speed limit of 40 to 50 kilometer per hour),” Ouano said.
