CEBUANO pedal pusher Jun Duron tried but his Japanese counterparts were just too much as the reigning champion settled for a tenth place in the opening leg of the 2017 Asian Mountain Bike Series yesterday in Tokyo, Japan.

The 31-year-old Duron, who won last year’s overall crown, clocked in one hour, nine minutes and 18 seconds, just four minutes and 21 seconds behind eventual champion Sakai Yoshikazu of Japan, who breasted the tape in one hour, four minutes and 57 seconds.

Japanese riders Higaki Ryiochi and Tada Naofumi rounded up the top three as they timed at 1:05:22 and 1:05:34, respectively.
