WORK IS HOLY

People have reason to celebrate Labor’s Day unlike before when labor was seen as a curse, a priest said.

“It served as our punishment after our first parents sinned,” he said, referencing a verse about toiling with the sweat of one’s brow.

But that changed after St. Joseph and Jesus — both carpenters – showed that work can be holy, the priest said.

JAIL CONGESTION

All stockades and jail facilities in the Philippines have been congested and the war on illegal drugs had only worsened the congestion.

So should the police stop conducting arrests and operations? Not so, said the region’s top police official.

“We have to do our job. The best we can do now is to address the problem on illegal drugs,” he said.

‘I AM TRAFFIC’

On May 8, all roads lead to Mandaue City which celebrates the fiesta of its patron, St. Joseph.

The streets near the National Shrine of St. Joseph are clear as they are off limits to vehicles. But how about the other roads in the city?

“As usual, heavy traffic! There’s nothing new with it. I am Mandaue. I am Traffic,” an angry Mandauehanon said.
