Former policeman shot dead in Lapu

A former policeman died after he was shot several times by men on board a motorcycle along the highway in Barangay Babag, Lapu-Lapu City past 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

Eligio Mantilla, 57, a resident of Barangay Bangbang, Cordova town was declared dead-on-arrival at Lapu-Lapu City Hospital. He sustained three gunshot wounds in his body.

Based on initial findings, SPO1 Luisito Ernie said that while the victim was riding his motorcycle heading home, two unidentified men who were also on board a motorcycle drove behind him and shot him several times causing him to fall to the ground.

He was immediately brought to the Lapu-Lapu City Hospital but was declared dead-on-arrival by attending physicians.

Police continue to investigate to determine the motive behind the killing and apprehend the assailants.
