Suspects arrested in drug busts

SIX persons were arrested by law enforcement agents in separate operations in Lapu-Lapu and Cebu cities early yesterday morning.

A 17-year-old girl, who was inside the drug den was “rescued” by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA-7) and operatives of the Lapu-Lapu City police Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) and brought to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for counseling and intervention.

At past midnight yesterday, the PDEA and the DEU led by Chief Insp. Mark Gifter Sucalit conducted a buy-bust operation inside an alleged drug den owned by a certain May Ann Hipolito, 21, who was the target of the operation.

According to Sucalit, Hipolito owns a boarding house in Barangay Pajo, Lapu-Lapu City, where one of the rooms was used as a drug den.

Also arrested were Jane Ross Mangubat, 28, Alvin Monterola, 26, and Wilmar Cuizon, 20.

Lea Albiar, PDEA-7 public information officer, said Hipolito had been under surveillance for about two weeks. Seized during the operation were 56.2 grams of suspected shabu valued at P113,000.

Meanwhile two other persons were arrested Tuesday dawn in Cebu City.

Steven Cavan, 31, was arrested in a buy-bust operation in Tres de Abril St., Labangon. Police allegedly seized from his possession illegal drugs valued at over P157,000.

In Barangay Suba, the drug bust resulted in the arrest of John Resty Lupian, 20, whom police considered a high-value target. Allegedly confiscated from him was P119,000 worth of illegal drugs.
