A 33-year-old man was injured after he was attacked with a scythe by a mentally deranged person last Tuesday night in Barangay Simala, Sibonga town, southern Cebu.
Nicholas Villacencio, married, however, got lucky after he only sustained minor injury in the head and body.
Villacencio narrated to the police that he was walking towards home when upon passing by the cave, the suspect identified as Oliver Moratas, 32, suddenly hacked him with a scythe.
But despite being injured, Villancencio managed to ask help from a barangay tanod, said PO3 Paulino Sanchez of Sibonga police station.
Moratas, who is sporting a long hair and beard, has been residing in a cave for a long time already and described by some residents as mentally ill.
He is now detained at the Sibonga police station, where some of the inmates are complaining of the unpleasant smell of the suspect.
