A RETIRED soldier was arrested at a checkpoint in Barangay Taytay, Danao City, for possession of several revolvers and ammunitions at 9 p.m. last Tuesday.

Chief Insp. Gerard Ace Pelare, Danao City police chief, said police spotted a .45 cal. pistol at the passenger seat of the vehicle driven by retired Master Sergeant Rodrigo Beonia during the inspection.

“This prompted us to ask for papers but (Beonia) failed to present any license,” Pelare said.

The police continued to search Beonia’s vehicle and found several unlicensed revolvers and ammunitions stashed in his bag.

“Originally he is from Region 6. But he is now living in Balamban town. So we suspected that he bought those firearms in Danao City. He denied that he owned the firearms and he won’t cooperate with us,” Pelare said.

Beonia is now detained at the Danao City Police Precinct pending the filing of charges of illegal possession of firearms against him.
