MANDAUE City’s nightspots will soon be required to stop serving liquor and turn down their music at midnight.

In last Monday’s meeting with police officials, Mandaue City Mayor Luigi Quisumbing voiced alarm over last Friday’s attack at the Resorts World Manila that led to the deaths of more than 30 persons.

He said Mandaue City’s hotels, restaurants, malls, hospitals and commercial establishments should augment their security to avoid these incidents.

Quisumbing said he will require them to submit a list of their security personnel so they could undergo basic training with the police and military to secure their establishments.

“In the interest of safety, I will be amending the operation of bars and nightlife establishments. I will make sure that the patrons of Mandaue’s establishments will be safe and be able to enjoy without any fear,” the mayor said.

Quisumbing said they will set up a lifestyle/entertainment zone in Mandaue City that will be required to lower their music below a certain level and to stop serving liquor at midnight.

Quisumbing said he will also make sure that the police, rescue teams and firefighters will be designated in strategic locations to immediately respond to any emergency.

Mandaue City has 13,000 businesses as of last year, records from the City Treasurer’s Office showed.

In Lapu-Lapu City, Mayor Paz Radaza said she was assured by the city’s police chief Senior Supt. Rommel Cabagnot of police visibility.

She said Cabagnot told her that 120 tourist police are assigned at the city’s hotels and resorts.

Radaza said she instructed City Tourism Officer Hembler Mendoza to monitor the hotels and resorts to make sure they are enforcing tight security measures.
