Put the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters back to their lofty throne in sports.

This, in a nutshell, is the marching order of new-installed UC athletic manager, Jessica Honoridez who succeeded lawyer Baldomero Estenzo last May.

And UC’s new sports architect is quite fast on her feet as she immediately met with the school’s coaches, staff and athletes not only to introduce herself, but to plot their next move to realize their goals.

Honoridez also unveiled some of the major sporting events her squad will be competing in for the rest of the year.

“I am focusing on the development of both our athletes and coaches so that we can be more competitive in the upcoming competitions.

I want also to recognize the hard working people in the department and address their concerns. So far we are training hard for the scheduled events that we will be joining and we will continue to work hard,” said Honoridez.

On top of the list of events the Webmasters will be joining are the International Sports Fiesta on August 2-6 in Malaysia; the World University Games on August 19-30 in Taipei, Taiwan; the Cebu City Olympics on November and the Asia Pacific University Games in Cebu this December.

Honoridez also clarified the statement of Milo Little Olympics Regional Finals chief organizer Ricky Ballesteros that UC will compete this year after skipping the 2016 edition. She said they are still finalizing the planned comeback as she still waits for the decision from the university’s higher office.

A perennial titleholder, UC struggled to get back on top in the Milo meet secondary division, dethroned by archrival University of San Carlos-Basic Education (USC-BED). The Webmasters ruled the school-based, multi-sporting event organized by Nestle Philippines for 17 years.

They were also dislodged once by USC-BED in the Cebu City Olympics but regained the title last year.

The Webmasters may have struggled the past few years, but Honoridez is optimistic they can regain their dominant form by improving the athletes and coaches’ training, joining more multi-sports meets and adding more athletes.

She is also seriously considering her coaches’ suggestion to form an elementary division team to match USC-BED’s vast number of entries.
