THE suspect in the murder of an election officer assigned in Barili town, southern Cebu, will face murder charges filed against him by the Barili police.

Escorted by his brothers SPO1 Jorve Timagos and SPO1 Tata Timagos, the suspect named Mario Timagos was presented to the Cebu Provincial Prosecutor’s Office at 4 p.m. yesterday.

Timagos stands accused of shooting down election officer Cresente Flores at a public market in Barangay Poblacion, Barili town, last Monday afternoon.

Witnesses positively identified Timagos, and the shooting was recorded by security cameras in the area. The murder weapon remains missing.

Provincial supervisor Lionel Marco Castillano of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said he was grateful to the police for Timagos’ arrest.

He said Timagos made the right decision to surrender to the police rather than hide from them. Timagos hid in Barangay

Timagos hid in Barangay Gacat, Barili town, before he was convinced by his brothers to surrender.

Chief Supt. Noli Taliño, Police Regional Office chief, said he considers the case solved but not closed.

He said the accounts of witnesses and the security camera footage provide sufficient evidence to build their case against Timagos.

The victim’s brother, Municipal Councilor Julieto Flores, said they were happy with this development.

He said the Barili municipal government may give a financial assistance worth P50,000 to his brother’s children.

Flores said his brother will be buried on Saturday this week
