Abella, Pescos rule 21k footrace

REIGNING All-Women’s Ultra Marathon (AWUM) champion Lizane Abella continued her winning ways as she topped the women’s 21-kilometer race of the 7th Saint Ignatius Run yesterday.

Abella, 28, a native of Minglanilla town, south Cebu, crossed the finish line at the SM City Cebu carpark in one hour, 27 minutes and 21 seconds to secure her ninth victory in local races this year.

Ruffa Sorongon placed second place with a time of 1:27.32 while Canadian April Flynn rounded off the top three, clocking 1:42.56.

In the men’s side, Rafael Pescos, this year’s Cebu City Marathon 42k champion, emerged as champion, clocking 1:13.34.

Joseph Emia (1:15.22) and Paul James Zafico (1:17.38) were his runners up.

In the 12k race, the Andrin sisters, Cherry and Lovely Fe, took the top two places in the women’s side after finishing with times of 55:04 and 56:21, respectively.

Cherma Monsanto placed third with a time of 58:14.

Arnel Florentino topped the men’s 12k race by clocking 42:43 followed by Michael Largo (42:44) and Earl Pionela (43:26).

Winners in the 6k race were Mary Joy Loberanis (25:05) and Prince Joey (19:54) while the 3k champions were Charisse Encarnacion (12:44) and Kim Harold Guiao (10:26).

The race was organized by Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Batch 1992 for the benefit of SHS-AdC’s Blue Plate Project feeding program in Barangay Canduman, Mandaue City and its scholarship program.
