THE CEBUANO commercial basketball scene gets a jolt tonight as the Emil’s Fresh Chicken Cup Invitational opens tonight at the Minglanilla Sports Complex.

The reigning champions Team Gullas kicks off the hostilities at 6:30 p.m. with a match against the ASPA Formworks.

Gullas will be bannered by the Daa brothers, Dino and Dennis along with several core players from the defending Cesafi titleholder, the University of the Visayas Green Lancers.

The tiff between SG-ARQ and the Riss/Eagles follows at 7:30 p.m. SG-ARQ is pegged to be a team to be reckoned with, as they will bring to battle the likes of Jercules Tangkay, Eman Calo and John Abad.

The nightcap at 8:30 p.m. will feature the San Remegio Properties against Fighter Wine.

The competing teams are bracketed in two groups. However, all teams will battle each other in the elimination round. Top two teams in Bracket A and Bracket B will meet in the cross-over semis. The winners there will play for the championship and the grand cash prize of P110,000.

This annual tournament is being organized and sponsored by businessman Jerry Oberes and his family, in coordination with barangay Linao-Lipata and the municipality of Minglanilla.
