Tomas on delay in aid: What gives?

CEBU City Mayor Tomas Osmeña is disappointed over the delays in the distribution of P2 million assistance to families of slain soldiers in Bohol province and the aid for earthquake stricken Ormoc City.

Osmeña said he will ask both Councilor Dave Tumulak and City Disaster Management Risk Reduction chief Nagiel Bañacia on why the cash aid had not yet reached their intended beneficiaries.

Tumulak is the deputy mayor for police matters and traffic in the city. Osmeña said there is still no update on the P2-million cash aid to the families of the soldiers slain in Bohol in an operation against the Abu Sayyaf bandits.

The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (PAGCOR) allowed the city to charge to its the account the funds for the assistance. Osmeña said he has not yet met the families of the three soldiers and one police officer killed in the line of duty.

“Our deputy mayors (I told them) do something. Up to now, the families of those killed, we are ready to disburse the P2 million for the poor families. But I told (Councilor Dave) Tumulak where are the families?,” he said.

Cebu City Hall earlier promised to release funds to purchase generators for the 29 pumping stations in Ormoc City that were not functioning due to lack of power.
Osmeña also pointed out the city’s pledge to help Marawi City.

“In Mindanao that’s hit, no one is working on it. Nagiel (Bañacia) is probably behind it,” he said.

Osmeña also said he is also still waiting for Tumulak’s recommendation on who will receive the P100,000 cash reward he offered for those providing information to locate the girl who accused a lawyer broadcaster of raping her.

He said the radio station who found the girl refused to accept the money. “They don’t like to receive it. I can’t force it on them,” he said.
