A RUNAWAY freight train collides with an immovable force today as the unbeaten University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars battle the streaking defending champions University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers in what is expected to be a titanic match-up in the 17th Cesafi men’s basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum.

Already at 3-0 (win-loss) following a thrilling 84-79 come-from-behind win over the University of Southern Philippines Foundation last weekend, the Jaguars are gearing up to pounce on the reigning title holders.

However, USJ-R wingman Tricky Peromingan says that they still have a lot to work on if they are to truly reach their potential this season.

“We should improve more on our defense, challenge every shot, make more steals. Also, we should be more aggressive in getting rebounds since it will be an advantage for our team especially against this veteran UV team,” said the recruit from Far Eastern University.

UV assistant coach and lead scout Van Halen Parmis shared that the Green Lancers have woken up after their sloppy performance during the season-opener, an anomaly that he blamed on their new sneakers.

“It’s really the shoes since they give it to the players right before the tournament. They can’t run or move as well since they still have to break in the new shoes. And secondly, they were very complacent against USC. Now, we’re 101 percent ready.”
