A PINEAPPLE vendor died while his assailant was shot down by police along a road in Carmen town, northern Cebu last Wednesday evening.

The 40-year-old victim identified as Emmar Paredes and a fellow pineapple vendor named Noli Cabahug slept on a mat along the side of the road in Barangay Cogon West when their assailant identified as Roel Collamat arrived in the area.

Collamat repeatedly stabbed them with a 13-inch knife.

Paredes died on the spot while Cabahug was rushed to a hospital in Cebu City.

Collamat still held the knife when police came and he was shot dead when he tried to stab another police officer.

Collamat was rushed to the Danao Provincial Hospital but failed to make it.

PO3 Roger Dilan of the Carmen police precinct said the suspect worked as a construction employee in the town, but experienced depression after breaking up with his wife.

Police found a sachet of shabu in Collamat’s possession.
