ONE of the more famous athletes in the country today is Cebuana Mary Joy Tabal.

The 28-year-old marathoner from Barangay Guba, Cebu City made headlines in sports pages  after winning gold in the recent Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Joy, as she is fondly called, also made history in 2016 by qualifying for the Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Olympics.

She is the first Filipina marathoner to accomplish that feat.

It’s no surprise that most runners look up to the petite marathoner from Cebu.

Cebu Daily News gathered interesting facts that not a lot of people know about the  Olympian.
