4th Abella Scrabble set Sept. 30

WORD wizards from different schools will be competing in the 4th Roger T. Abella Memorial Open Scrabble Tournament on Sept. 30 at the Robinsons Galleria Cebu.

According to Marilyn Abella, organizer and wife of the late national master Roger Abella, the tournament will have competitions in high school and elementary divisions.

Among the schools participating, according to Marilyn, are University of the Visayas, University of San Jose-Recoletos, Cebu City National Science High School, Cebu Institute of Technology – University, City Central Elementary School, Carreta Elementary School, Mambaling Elementary School, Abellana National School, Cebu Eastern College, Colegio de la Inmaculada Concepcion, Benthel Asia School of Technology, PAREF Springdale School Inc, Asian College of Technology, Quiot Elementary School, University of San Carlos – North Campus, St. Theresa’s College, Talisay City Science High School, and Ramon Duterte Memorial National High School.

There will also be a professional category, which will feature the likes of Renante dela Cerna, Joel Toroy, Dartspeed Eslao, and Jowar Ayuno.

The champions in the elementary and high school competition will win P2,000 while the pro champion will pocket P3,000 cash, and an overnight stay for two at the Montebello Villa Hotel.
