UC, USC jins shine in Cesafi taekwondo

JINS from the University of Cebu (UC) and University of San Carlos (USC) once again displayed their full prowess as they emerged as overall champions in their respective disciplines in the 17th Cesafi Taekwondo Tournament last weekend at the Pacific Mall in Mandaue City.

UC once again dominated the sparring competition after raking up a total of 20 gold medals both in the high school and college category. USC reigned supreme in the poomsae category after collecting nine golds.

Bulk of UC’s gold came from its high school team, which bagged 14 gilts.

Winners in the girls’ team are Sophia Labra (heavyweight), Danica Mae Baguio (light middleweight), Shiela Mae Lepon (middleweight), Mayn Coran (lightweight), Melody Jane Infante (bantamweight), Kissha Barro (flyweight) and Royda Ranile (finweight).

The seven gold medalists in the boys’ side are Clint Morales (light middleweight), Dominic Sator (middleweight), Sal Louis Estrada (welterweight), Job Canedo (lightweight), Frank Mark Escuadro (bantamweight), Windel Rama (flyweight) and Warren Rama (finweight).

In the college competition, UC bagged six gold medals, five coming from the women’s side.

Zozen Prajes ruled the heavyweight division, Rizza Marie Gimenez topped the middleweight, Andrea Toleroso won the welterweight title, Aila Marie Lepon bagged the featherweight crown and Ma. Carmela Coran was crowned flyweight champion.

The lone gold winner for the Webmasters in the men’s action was Jeaferlie Rebusit.

Meanwhile, winners for USC in the high school are Nichole Maurin (individual poomsae) and the duo of Mark Bugarin and Lee Robie Gayle Navales (pair poomsae).

In the college individual category, USC’s gold medalists are Maegan Bugarin and Aldrein Abrio. Johnsy Sanchez and Abrio also emerged champions in the pair poomsae action. Benedict Suico, Kyle Flores and Abrio also snared a gold in the team poomsae category. The Warriors also won four golds in sparring courtesy of Abrio, Suico, David Labiste and Roel Perales III.
