Cebu Daily News (CDN) completed a three-peat in the MetaFit “Train Like Heroes” Challenge yesterday at the Cebu Business Park (CBP) grounds.

The team composed of CDN reporters Jose Santino Bunachita, Victor Anthony Silva, Nestle Semilla and Glendale Rosal together with multimedia coordinator Marc Cosep garnered 210 points to rule for the third straight year the competition that is part of the celebration of this year’s Cebu Press Freedom Week.

Sun.Star Cebu finished second with 190 points while ABS-CBN came out third with 140 points.

The event, organized by Cebu Holdings Incorporated (CHI) and MetaFit Boot camp of Coach Alan Choachuy, was comprised of different challenges inspired by United States’ popular television show “American Ninja Warrior.” But it had a different twist. Each challenge had its own degree of difficulty depending on what super hero must be emulated in order to accomplish the task.

CDN won three of the five challenges to emerge champions again.

Television giant GMA settled for fourth place with 120 points followed by The Freeman at fifth place with 90 points.

The top three teams received cash prizes and a trophy courtesy of CHI.

ABS-CBN sweep

Meanwhile, runners from ABS-CBN bagged the two 5K run titles in the 2017 Press Freedom Run held earlier also at the CBP.

Bayani Alvarez topped the men’s run in 18 minutes and 24 seconds while Donna Lavares ruled the women’s race with a time of 31:29.

Winners in the 3k competition were The Freeman’s Andres Lanchinebre (15:33) and Rosa Maria Paquera (18:33).

The tandem of Publio Briones (Sun.Star Cebu) and Divine Ngujo (The Freeman) topped the BFF category with a time of 18:33.
