THE Overlimit Jiujitsu Academy Cebu and Atos Jiujitsu made waves in their respective events in the 2017 Dumau Philippine International Jiujitsu Open over the weekend at the SM Seaside City Cebu Mountain Wing.

Grapplers from Overlimit collected 13 golds, 12 silvers and eight bronze medals as they topped the overall team championship in the Gi event.
Atos came in second as they tallied 11-9-4 (gold-silver-bronze) medal haul. Deftac Ribeiro placed in third with a 9-7-4 haul.

Atos, meanwhile, composed of fighters from Cebu, Cagayan de Oro, Manila and San Diego, California, reigned supreme with a 5-9-1 medal haul in the No Gi event.

Pato Studio (4-4-7) and Deftac Ribeiro (6-2-1) were the runners-up.

Despite the stiff competition, as the Dumau Open was participated by elite grapplers from Asia and the United States, a number of Cebuanos also collected golds in the weekend-long event.

Among them were Pato’s Jenny Fernandez, Deftac’s Freska Tejam, Overlimit’s Prish Balingcogan in the women’s Gi, and Atos’ Josh Ybañez, Enzo Damaolao of Overlimit and Lancelot Gacasan in the kids division.

In the combined adults, masters and seniors class in the Gi, winners were Lemuel Maglinte, Ramil Pacaña and Reece Theodore Paranga of Atos, Odie Damaolao of Overlimit, Rhyle Lugo of Deftac and Pato’s Peter Corazo and Kurt Ocenar.

Cebuanos who excelled in the No Gi were purple belter Leo Gaerlan of Atos, Corazo, Daryll Garcia, and Benavidez of Pato, Arnel Ylanan of Deftac and Rachelle Montano of 98 BJJ.
