CHARGES of illegal drug possession were filed against Joselito Gungob, the younger brother of former Consolacion mayor Avelino Gungob, at the Cebu Provincial Prosecutor’s Office yesterday.

PO2 Socrates Borinaga of the Consolacion Police Precinct said the 54-year-old Gungob, a resident of Barangay Pulpogan in Consolacion, had been engaged in the illegal drug trade for some time even after he surrendered to police during their Oplan Tokhang last year.

Gungob admitted that he used drugs to sustain his stamina due to his frequent travels and later engaged in selling shabu to pay for his habit.

He also said he hoped his brother could forgive him for what he did.

Gungob was arrested at his home in last Friday’s drug bust and yielded several sachets of shabu.

Senior Supt. Mina Domingo of the Consolacion police said they considered Gungob a high-value target.

In a related development, four brothers were arrested in separate operations in Alcantara town.

Winston Rose Cañete and Edgar Cañete, both in their 30s, yielded sachets of shabu.

They are said to be supplying shabu in Alcantara and neighboring towns, as well as Mandaue City.

Police also arrested Archimedes and Israel Ocariza, also in Alcantara town.
