CEBU residents and visitors were advised not to overstock on food and to watch what they eat to avoid hypertension and other ailments caused by overeating during the holidays.

Dr. Shelbay Blanco, Health and Emergency Management Staff (HEMS) coordinator of the Department of Health (DOH), said households should avoid stocking up on food in order to avoid leftovers that may spoil if not eaten in a day or two.

Dr. Blanco also advised the public to watch what they eat especially with the number of invitations they receive for Christmas parties this month.

“We should only eat in moderation especially with oily food,” Dr. Blanco said. He also advised the public to avoid consuming too much juice, food and liquor.

That combined with stress can trigger various illnesses, Dr. Blanco said.
