According to Demetria, Pimentel’s mother, her son went down from the 2nd floor of their house when he heard that she was looking for him as the rains started to pour around 3 am.

Pimentel slipped from their 8-steps stair and fell to the concrete floor. He was rushed to a hospital in Malabuyoc town proper but was advised to be transferred to the city.

“Nalipay na unta ko kay ipabalhin sya unya niana man ang doktora nga 50-50 na sya, and then he died at 6:00 a.m.,” said Demetria.

In the case of Matas, she failed to get out when the landslide covered a portion of her house, said Tribunalo said.

He said the municipal disaster team advised Matas to evacuate, but she refused to leave.
