Cebu-based runners win in Baybay City Marathon

CEBU-BASED runners Paul James Zafico and Ruffa Sorongon emerged champions in the Baybay City Marathon 2018 in Baybay City, Leyte yesterday.

The 31-year-old Zafico from Cagayan de Oro City who is based in Cebu City and works in the BPO industry, clocked exactly three hours to finish first in the men’s 42-kilometer race.

In the women’s 42k, Sorongon, who is from Sultan Kudarat but also now based in Cebu, finished in 3:53.00 to win the crown.

Rafael Pescos of the Spectrum Runners Club clocked 3:05.00 to finish second to Zafico while Gema Monsanto settled for second in the women’s race with a time of 4:04.

Cebuano marathoner Noel Tillor, meanwhile, took the top spot in the 21k race with a time of one hour and 22 minutes.

Azlan Pagay (1:26.00) and Jayson Lopido (1:29.00) landed at second and third, respectively.

Rodith Ollave topped the women’s 21k race with a time of 2:06.00 while Geraldine Pedros (2:11.00) and Anita Balaga (2:17.00) were her runners up.

The 10k champions were Jayson Padayao (39:56) and Lymhar Benihagan (01:03.00).
