THE IMAGE of the Sr. Sto. Niño is set to visit detainees at the Operation Second Chance Center and the Cebu City Jail in Barangay Kalunasan today, two days before the formal start of this year’s Fiesta Señor celebration.

Dave Tumulak, chairman of the Sinulog 2018 Executive Committee, said they scheduled the jail visit to also allow inmates to show their devotion to the Holy Child.

Helping the inmates strengthen their spirituality is also a means of helping them reform, said Tumulak.

“This is to bring Sto. Niño closer to the inmates and their families. We know that these prisoners, they have no opportunity to go to church with their families. So, this is the right time to strengthen their faith and devotion. They are also entitled to the privilege of strengthening their faith,” Tumulak said.

The image of the Sto. Niño is scheduled to leave the basilica at 1 p.m. and travel to Barangay Kalunasan where the two facilities are located.

From Osmena Boulevard, the caravan will pass through P. del Rosario, J. Alcantara Street, V. Rama Avenue, to Barangay Guadalupe and then Barangay Kalunasan.

Tumulak said the image will first visit the Operation Second Chance Center for a 2:30 p.m. Mass.

It will later on be transferred to the female dormitory of the city jail that is located nearby for a 5:30 p.m. Mass.

A third mass scheduled at 8:30 p.m. will be held at the jail’s male dormitory, where the Sto. Niño will be made to spend the night prior to its return to the basilica on Wednesday.

Last month, the Sto. Niño also visited patients of the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) and the Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) for the first time.
