Zafra: Cebu City village chiefs submitted drug list

THE barangays in Cebu City have already been submitting a list of drug personalities in their area to the law enforcement agencies.

This was said by Association of Barangay Council (ABC) president and Tisa Barangay Captain Philip Zafra in reaction to the directive of newly appointed undersecretary of Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Martin Diño on Tuesday requiring village chiefs to submit a list of drug pushers in their area of responsibility or face raps.

Diño vowed to step up their involvement in the government’s massive campaign against illegal drugs.

“I will make sure that all barangays all over the Philippines will be fighting against illegal drugs,” Diño said.

Zafra said the recent pronouncement of the newly appointed undersecretary of DILG is not new to them. “There’s nothing new to that. We’ve been assisting and helping the PDEA (Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency) and the PNP (Philippine National Police) in the campaign against illegal drugs,” Zafra said.

But Zafra said he was confident that the barangays in the city will comply with Diño’s directive. “Ang amo lang sad gusto dili unta urong-sulong ang administrasyon sa kampanya batok sa ilegal nga drugas (What we want is for the current administration not to lie low in the campaign against illegal drugs),” Zafra said.

Zafra said they update their list of drug personalities every now and then especially when there are new players in the drug trade coming from other places.

Zafra said that based on the intelligence report from the police, there are drug personalities who keep on transferring from one place to another to avoid arrest.
